Lessons Learned

its been a couple of months since i bought in and started playing online and i've grown to learn many things of myself

i should never play when i am bored or do not have a goal.
when i have a goal in sight such as earning money to take to vegas or earning money to buy a tv, i am way more focused and play a lot better than when i do when i'm bored. when i'm bored, i play recklessly and gamble when i know i'm losing and a big underdog..

when i'm playing well and eventually when i double up, i lose all confidence and play so passively. i leave the table pretty quick and stop playing all together so that i won't lose the winnings..
and then on another day, if i lose, i keep playing more and play worse and worse to try to climb back to even. i even climb up to higher limits to win it back faster and it usually leads to very big losses for the day
this combination is not a very good combination and i definitely have to minimize any losing sessions

i don't have the patience for hold'em but i definitely love omaha
the fast paced action gives me the rush to satisfy my small gambling crave

daniel negreanu is a poker genius

right now i could buy into a higher limit omaha game and have been debating whether or not to do it..
i would definitely love to move up and eventually be playing the 5/10 PLO game but i don't know if i'm going to try it yet..
i don't know if playing poker with that much money on the table would be good for me

Unbelievable

A preflop limper with a rags hand calls not only a raise/reraised potted pre flop
but also goes all in after the original raiser goes pots it for another 360 basically putting the guy all in with his rags hand..

and he still goes in...and of course he wins..taking a big pot away from me when it should have been AA vs KK

and im back to grinding again to be able to play that limit again
i grinded for the past few weeks and finally felt good enough to try the 2/4 and then lost on my 2nd hand :[

I had been grinding for the past week on .50/1 NL holdem and got my stack up to 480 and then lost 1/4 of it on 1/2 PL Omaha when I put it all in with trips and Ace kicker against a guy that called with trips and a 10 kicker

10 on the turn...

back to grinding...sigh...

Need Feedback

I need feedback on this hand because I wasn't really sure how to play it..The guy I was playing against was literally in every single hand..My thinking was that I knew I had him beat the whole way and I wanted to extract as much money as I could from him.

Based on his flop bet of 1, I thought he was chasing the flush and when it came on the turn, I thought he made his flush. Thats why I reraised the amount I did on the turn because I thought that I thought that he'd call my all in bet on the river.

And you can imagine my surprise when he didn't leading me to believe that maybe he only had that 7. But his betting wouldn't support the 7 would it??

Sunday Poker..

Ok so I bought into another $15 holdem sit n go but its a Sunday and I feel kind of iffy cause I usually try not to play poker on Sundays..but I'm sitting at home bored and the Warriors just lost a huge game to the Hornets (Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson must be playing really hurt because they are not playing the way they need to be playing my goodness, but that could be a whole another blog which I probably will write on my xanga..)

This hand really made me upset cause I knew the guy was weak on the flop..Based on his play, I could tell he was not a good omaha player and a total donkey..All he had was a weak open ended that was not even the top draw for the straight draw..I knew he was weak so I raised him with my multiple draws in order to push him out..Unfortuntaely he called and I lost the hand..Against a good omaha player, I would definitely have had that hand on the flop..

The very next hand, I picked up a decent playable hand and even though I was upset about the previous hand, I thought I'd try to play off a tilt type table image and became aggressive with this hand

So here was my thought process on this hand..I picked up a pretty strong hand..double suited, connecting high cards and I hit a strong flop..I made a smaller bet than I usually have been, Usually I'd pot it but I wanted to mix this up with 2 other players in the hand so I bet out about 2/3 of the pot. The one guy called behind me and I had to start thinking if he was smooth calling with a weak two pair or a set. If he had the top 2 like I did, I definitely would have expected a raise which probably would be a good play for him. If he had the set, he could have smooth called and pushed it on the turn which is risky in Omaha. Usually most players will push it on the flop to give worse odds to players that have drawing hands.

I knew I could cross off a set of Aces cause he just called a small raise preflop. A set of 8's would have reraised me on the flop..So what I was really looking at was a set of Queens, Q8, or A8.

I bet out hard on the turn to find out what he really had. My pot bet gave me the information that I needed. If he pushed, then he would have had the set of Queens but since he just called, I knew he had to have the weak 2 pair. When the J gave me the nut straight on the river, I pushed in hoping that he'd call with that 2 pair. I wanted to think that he would think that there was no way I really could have made the straight with the way I had played the hand.

I guess I could have made a value bet but with the nuts in Omaha, you almost always want to pot it because there will be many time where you pot it on the river on a position bluff bet so you have to make sure you are setting that play up.

Sadly, he folded..

On A Roll?

I bought into a $15 Sit n Go Hold'em tournament..I've been on a good little streak lately with these sit n go tournaments so I was hoping to keep it up

There wasn't any really interesting hands during the tournament..I played pretty solid and really focused on concentrating and being patient throughout the tournament..I keep having this problem of getting bored and trying to win too many hands so I made it a goal to be patient the whole tournament and make sound decisions

Nothing really special happened during the tournament but I was really happy about the last hand..I had been raising almost every hand preflop when it came down to 4 handed cause I noticed that people tightened up..When it finally came down to heads up, I noticed the other guy became loose and aggressive..I really felt like if I limped with a solid hand, he would have pushed his stack in with an average hand.. I waited for a good hand and it came about 6 hands into the showdown match

So stupid!! I don't know why I did that...But for some reason I talked myself into thinking that the guy was making a move on me..

But after reanalyzing that hand, even if he was slow playing a big hand or just chasing a draw with his smooth call on the flop, I should have let it go on the turn. But noo, I somehow deduced that he was making a play on me and that his pot bet instead of checking it to me was him trying to make a move on me. It did occur to me that he could have had the straight on the turn but it didn't make sense to me why he would bet it instead of waiting for me to act.

It was a retarded call by me cause I would have played the hand the same way he did so I understand his moves. I for some reason thought that he was making a play on me and even if he did have a hand, I thought I still had outs to draw for a straight that could save me.

And then this hand..What the heck am I doing?!?!?! This was actually the last hand I was going to play before I ended the session..I can't believe I did this!

I know that I said last time that if you pot it from the BB, it screams Aces. But I had only been at the table for about 5 hands and I had already made preflop pot raises in 2 hands out of the 5 so I had set a loose aggressive image. That's why I wasn't afraid to pot it from the BB with the Aces..

The flush draw was the one hand I was supposed to have had to worry about but I really didn't feel like he was drawing for it. Usually in Omaha you tend to see people try to steal pots on the flop with their drawing hands and with his smooth call on the flop, I felt like he was trying to trap me with a strong hand like a set. Luckily for me I had the top set so I knew I was good to go. I made a larger bet on the turn that pretty much made me pot committed and I was happy to see him move in. I was pretty certain he had the set of 10's before he showed and he did!

What's interesting is that he had a chance to lay it down on the turn. He should have been wondering if I had either the set of Aces or even the flush draw but he couldn't let go of his set..

This was another short session but it's time to hit the gym!

I became more aggressive in stealing blinds in the sit n go since there were only 3 people left..I knocked out the first guy and then faced a 2-1 chip disadvantage with the leader..I continued to be aggressive and eventually had a big chip lead and then it all came apart in 2 crucial hands:

Ok after seeing Kenny and Kev's blogs and the endless pressure from Kev to buy in and start a blog...Well it worked Kev haha

I just bought in $240 into my Pokerstars account and intend to build up a roll through Omaha..You guys should start expecting to see either a really short blog or a rollercoaster blog Haha


I just sat down on a $1/2 Omaha table ($120 buy in) because not only do I think that I can't handle the amount of time spent grinding at the lower limits, but I also want to make larger amounts of money faster (or lose lol)

I haven't played any Omaha (except when I beat Kev yesterday :p) ever since I stopped at the end of January..so hopefully I dont make any bad decisions on rust..

By the next few weeks, I hope to be playing the $3/6 or even the $5/10 game so here we go!

I think normally I would have checked that hand in the big blind because it's too obvious to pot it from the big blind..It screams ACES..But because of the large number of people in the hand, I potted it to weed out some of the crappier drawing type hands..

Pretty basic hand just to start the blog!
